GREENFIELD TWP — A two-vehicle collision in Huron County left one person dead Wednesday.

The state Highway Patrol’s Norwalk post is investigating the fatal crash, which occurred at 8:20 a.m. at the intersection of Ohio 61 and Ohio 162 in Greenfield Township.

A 2015 Hyundai Sonata, which was eastbound on Ohio 162, traveled through a posted stop sign and into the path of a southbound 1998 GMC 2500 truck being driven by Ven K. Beat, 27, of Norwalk, troopers said. This resulted in both vehicles colliding in the intersection.

Beat was transported to Mercy Willard Hospital with incapacitating injuries, troopers said.

The driver of the Hyundai Sonata was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the Hyundai’s driver is being withheld until the next of kin notification has been made.

Neither driver was wearing a safety belt. Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected as a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
