(UPDATED at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019)

A man sustained several stab wounds and was taken to the hospital Wednesday night following an attack in Norwalk, police said.

The incident happened on the city’s north side in the area of Stower Lane, which leads to the movie theater complex.

Norwalk police received a 9-1-1 call from the victim just after 8 p.m., after he went to a Stower Lane business seeking help, Det. Sgt. Dave Daniels said.

The victim told police “he was robbed,” police Chief Mike Conney said ate Wednesday night.

The victim suffered “several” stab wounds to the abdominal area and was taken by North Central EMS to Fisher-Titus Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

The exact location of the attack is unknown. However, Daniels said it is believed to have happened somewhere on Stower Lane, near the business plaza housing East of Chicago. Police also were not able to identify what type of weapon was used in the assault, and no suspects have been apprehended.

Police said they are not aware of a surveillance camera that could have captured video of the attack.

Police tape sectioned off the plaza housing East of Chicago Pizza for three and half hours Wednesday night as police searched for evidence.

“It’s still an ongoing investigation and we’re still taking information,” Daniels said today. “On our Facebook we have persons of interest. They’re just ones that were in the area around that time and that match the description given by the victim. He said there was more than one (attacker).”

The victim told police he was alone at the time.

The detective sergeant encouraged people to take practical precautions.

“We’ve had stabbings in the past, but unrelated to this, of course,” Daniels said. “I would always advise the public to be aware of their surroundings in the general public, especially when they’re by themselves.”

Daniels said the department is seeking the community’s help in the investigation.

“I would just ask, if anyone had seen or heard anything last night, please notify us,” he said. “It could be the smallest detail that they don’t think is a very big deal, but that could add a missing piece to the puzzle.”
