WAKEMAN — A Greenwich woman was flown to a Cleveland hospital Sunday night after being hit by a pickup truck while walking on a rural road in Huron County.

Amanda L. Lewis, 22, was walking south in the southbound lane of Butler Road near Ohio 303 at 11:17 p.m. when she was hit by a southbound 1995 Ford F-350 being driven by Joseph C. Allread, 30, of Wakeman, said troopers with the Norwalk post of the state Highway Patrol.

Lewis suffered incapacitating injuries and was treated at the scene by Citizens EMS. She later was flown by a MetroHealth Life Flight helicopter to the MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Her condition was unavailable Monday night.

Allread attempted to stop the pickup before hitting the woman, but he was unable to do so, troopers said. He had been wearing his seat belt and was not injured. The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.

Assisting troopers at the scene were the Wakeman Fire Department, Citizens EMS, Huron County Sherriff’s Office and MetroHealth LifeFlight.

Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said. However, troopers were unavailable to clarify which person is suspected to have consumed alcohol.
