BERLIN HEIGHTS — A Berlin Heights man died Friday after he was ejected from his vehicle in what authorities are calling an alcohol-related crash.

Roger Maxwell, 54, of Berlin Heights, was driving a 2000 Ford Excursion south on Ceylon Road, near Nash Road, at 9:14 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, said troopers with the state Highway Patrol. The vehicle traveled off the right side of the road, where it struck a ditch, a traffic sign and a tree before overturning.

Maxwell, who was not wearing his seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, troopers said.

Maxwell was transport to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, where he later died from the injuries sustained in the crash, troopers said. The vehicle sustained severe damage to its top and left side and was towed by Norb’s Towing.

Assisting troopers at the scene were the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, North Central EMS, LifeFlight, Townsend Fire Department and Berlin Heights Fire Department.

Alcohol appears to be contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation, troopers said.
