ELYRIA — A woman is in critical condition after being hit by a semi truck while walking across the street.

Dora Langwasser, 60, of Elyria, was attempting to cross Ohio 57 at about 8:47 a.m. in Elyria Township when she was run over by a 2004 Freightliner driven by Matthew Gase, 29, of Lorain, state Highway Patrol troopers said.

Prior to the accident, Gase’s rig was stopped at a traffic light in a westbound lane, troopers said. When the light turned green, the semi began to turn right onto Ohio 57. As the semi was completing its turn, Langwasser attempted to cross Ohio 57 from Griswold Road. She walked into the rear right portion of the car hauler and was run over by the right rear axle tires, trooper said.

Langwasser was flown by a LifeFlight helicopter to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center, where, according to reports, she was listed as in serious condition Friday night.

The crash remains under investigation. However, alcohol and/or drug use does not appear to be a factor in the accident, troopers said.
