At 7:12 a.m. Robert F. Mugridge Jr, 57, of Harrison Township, Mich. was driving his semi westbound on State Street, when he turned left onto the west end of the U.S. 20 bypass near Fremont and collided with a Cadillac driven by William C. Mayle, 75, of Fremont, killing Mayle.

The 2013 Peterbuilt Semi truck and trailer turned left onto Township Road 138 and stopped at the stop sign. He pulled out and was attempting to turn left to head eastbound on the U.S. 20 bypass when he was struck by the 2012 Cadillac SRX4, which then went under the semi.

Mayle had beeb Westbound on the U.S. 20 bypass and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash and the crash remains under investigation by troopers at the Fremont Highway Patrol. Mugridge was cited into Fremont Municipal Court for failing to yield the right of way and vehicular homicide, a misdemeanor of the first degree.

The Fremont Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Sandusky County Sheriff’s Office, Sandusky County Fire and EMS, Sandusky County Coroner, Ohio Department of Transportation, OSHP Motor Carrier Enforcement Units, OSHP Crash Reconstructionist and Madison Motors Towing.
