Pleasant School is filling up fast

The number of students enrolled at Pleasant Elementary School is on the rise, and Norwalk School Superintendent Phillip Slaymaker says the school is nearing capacity.

Slaymaker told the board of education Tuesday night that kindergarten and grades 1, 4 and 5 are reaching capacity at Pleasant, and administrators would try to encourage people to enroll their children at League Street or Maplehurst elementaries.

Slaymaker said William Conway, principal of Pleasant and League schools, is trying to balance enrollment between the three schools.

 

Norwalk’s airport loses its operators Thursday

Time is running out as the Norwalk-Huron County Airport Authority has not yet found anyone to replace the current airport operators, who will officially give up their duties Thursday.

James Bender and Robert Blackman, owners of Personal Planes, Inc., and present operators of the airport, notified authority members last month that they were terminating their business and would no longer operate the airport.

Airport authority president Paul Jones told authority members he has met with two prospective operators, but that there was nothing concrete yet.

 

McManus family reunion held

The 12th annual McManus family reunion was held Sunday at the home of Leo and Ann Hartman in Mansfield. Joe and Ruth Henney of Griffin, Ga., were host and hostess.

Those attending the potluck dinner are descendants of P.F. McManus, who lived in Norwalk. Forty-seven people attended from Centerville, Sandusky, Bellevue, Norwalk, Mansfield and Griffin, Ga.

Next year’s hostess will be Kathy McManus and the reunion will be held in Norwalk.

 

St. Paul captains and coach

Norwalk, Western Reserve, to meet in volleyball scrimmage

Norwalk, Western Reserve and Clyde high schools will open their 1983 girls’ volleyball seasons Saturday night at the Junior High with a preview. Three games up to 11 points each will be played.

Norwalk has four starters and seven returning lettermen back. The returning starters are Deb Windler, Yvette Moore, Kathy Johnson and Sallie Mertler.
