There are few people as well renowned medicine in Norwalk as Dr. James Gottfried. And rightly so. The doctor recently announced he will retire in September after about 45 years of curing Norwalk.

Dr. Adam Link will begin working at the Northern Ohio Family Practice center Aug. 1 to help with the case work load.

Gottfried is working only two days a week until he retires.

He joined the Norwalk Clinic in 1978 and branched off in 2003, starting James A. Gottfried M.D., Inc. His practice has grown from there. A special point in his career came when a patient he formerly cared for as a child joined his practice as a doctor. Dr. Elyse Tinker moved home to Norwalk with her husband and daughter in 2017 to join the practice of her childhood physician.

Gottfried is a member of the Fisher-Titus medical staff. Over the years he served as chief of staff, chairman of family practice and chairman of the credential committee. He has also sat on the hospital’s joint council, executive committee and ethics committee. He also is currently on the Huron County Health Board.

The doctor and his wife Patti, have three grown children: Heather, Matthew, and Michael. He loves to boat on Lake Erie, fly fish on the Platt River in Colorado, travel and raise sheep.
