Insurance to pay for water tower repairs

NEW LONDON — Village Administrator Shawn Pickworth gave council some good news Monday by saying the village’s insurance company has agreed to pay $108,000 for repairs to the inside of the water tower.

Council voted to contract with the “lowest and best bidder” for the project.

The preliminary engineering review for the upcoming wastewater treatment plant project is almost done, after which the village will apply for construction funding.

The design plans for the repair of the Terry Wilson Memorial Deck are being developed by Prete Builders, the company that built the deck. Pickworth said plans call for steel beams and concrete reinforcement, which should prevent any similar problems in the future.

Cole Risner passed his class III water certification and the bid opening for the Johnson Drive, Pearl Street and village parking lot repaving is June 19.

Fire Chief John Chapin said his department has received two grants through the Ohio State Fire Marshall’s office — $1,800 for training and $10,000 for equipment.
