Health department moving to Executive Drive

The local health department soon will have a new home.

Huron County Public Health (HCPH) will move from its current location in the county administration building on Milan Avenue to 28 Executive Drive.

The health board recently voted to purchase the building for a total investment of $550,000 to be paid over a five-year period. This decision was made based on what was best for the agency, the community, and the best investment of tax payer dollars, agency officials said.

Known as the Executive Medical & Surgical Center, the building currently houses Fisher-Titus Home Health Center.

This facility, though similar in size to the current location, will allow HCPH to better utilize the available space to meet the needs of the agency and to provide essential health services to Huron County residents.

The new location is near Fisher-Titus Medical Center and other local governmental and social service agencies in the community, making it an ideal fit for the health department, officials said.

Board members also looked at other sites around the county and considered all viable options. However, none of the other sites met the needs of the health department in terms of space, accessibility, and parking availability.

“We searched for a facility that had limited remodeling expenses with convenient access for the citizens of the entire county,” Health Commissioner Tim Hollinger said.

HCPH anticipates a smooth transition to the new facility. Huron County residents should see little change or disruption to the current programs and services being provided.

The health department will continue to provide public health services at its current location, 180 Milan Ave, Suite 8, until a moving date can be decided.

More information will be announced as it becomes available.
