Norwalk golfers fare well at host LEJGA tourney

NORWALK — Local golfers of several ages endured Thursday’s hot temperatures to put together solid performances at the Lake Erie Junior Golf Association’s Eagle Creek Open.

In Division D (boys ages 17-19), Norwalk’s Zach Crane finished the course with a 76 (+5), besting Norwalk High teammate Gavin Koelsch (38-39—77) by a stroke. Crane shot a 40 on the front nine, but turned in a 36 on the back nine.

Meanwhile, a third NHS golfer, Carter Kluding, finished tied with Pittsburgh resident Myles Hamel with a 79 (37-42). Norwalk’s Kyle Smith (42-41—83) and Justin Sommers (41-42—83) both finished tied for fifth with Monroeville’s Andy Bauman (40-43—83).

Willard’s Ian Brown (43-46—89) was ninth in Division D.

In Division C (boys 14-16), Western Reserve’s Matthew Jarrett finished in eighth (49-42—91).

In Division G (girls 15-19), Bellevue’s Lara Spurlock finished tied for second place with a 42-44—86. Clyde’s Brooke Newsome won the division with an 84.

Also competing in Division C was Bellevue’s Olivia Martinez (45-50—95) and Norwalk’s Noelle Jackson (56-51—107) and Chloe Thomas (56-70—126).

The LEJGA championship tournament is scheduled for Monday at the Fremont Country Club.
