FINDLAY — The Norwalk boys golf team shot a 379 as a team at Thursday’s Division I district tournament hosted at Red Hawk Run Golf Course in Findlay.

No. 1 golfer Carter Kluding had the 10th best score among the 60 competing on Thursday, as he carded a 43 on each side for an 86 on the challenging water-prominent par 72 course.

Not far behind him among the top 20 was Kyle Smith (47-45—90), followed by Zach Craine (43-48—96), Gavin Koelsch (56-51—107) and Noah Scheel (56-59—115).

Perrysburg (353) and Toledo St. John’s (356) finished first and second in the team standings to advance to the state championships next Friday in Columbus.

Sylvania Northview (359) was third, followed by Lexington (365), Anthony Wayne (369), Ashland (374), Wapakoneta (375), Shawnee (376), Findlay (377) and Norwalk (379).

“The course was dry, but very windy,” Norwalk coach Wes Douglas said. “We finished at the bottom, but the spread from first to last was only 23 strokes — which is rare. Scores were extremely high overall.”

Individually, Oregon Clay’s Palmer Yenrick (37-40—77) and Ashland’s Max Watson (40-38—78) advanced to state.

“We are already talking about winter and summer workouts as we return all but Noah and have high expectations for next fall,” Douglas said. “Our 14 players are quality student-athletes and I’m proud to have them call me coach.

“I’d also like to give a special thanks to Dave Morgan, Dustin Lieber and the Eagle Creek staff for their help and guidance every year.”
