Plymouth runs past Willard for second win

PLYMOUTH — The Big Red football team had no trouble with rival Willard on Friday at Alumni Field.

Plymouth broke an early tie with three straight touchdowns, and put the game away in the third quarter for a 46-12 win over the Crimson Flashes.

Lukas Montgomery opened the Plymouth scoring with a 6-yard run, then added the two-point run for an 8-0 lead at the 9:14 mark of the first quarter.

After Willard (0-2) pulled within 8-6 on a 2-yard run by Jon Rothhaar, the Big Red got a short run again from Montgomery from a yard out. He added the two points once again for a 16-6 lead at the 2:40 mark of the opening quarter.

Josh Stevens then got loose for a 23-yard run, with Montgomery adding the two points for a 24-6 lead at the 9:00 mark of the second.

With 4:58 left in the first half, quarterback Walker Elliot connected with Jace Barber for a 3-yard TD pass, though the try for two points failed. However, Plymouth took a 30-6 lead into halftime.

Willard scored on a 31-yard TD pass to open the third from Cooper Parrott to Dario Lopez. However, the Big Red put the game away with a 35-yard TD run by Camden Welch and a 10-yard score by Montgomery with 10:20, and just 23 seconds left in the third quarter, respectively.

As a team, Plymouth ran 53 times for 310 yards and the five touchdowns. Montgomery ran 18 times for 80 yards for the Big Red, while Welch added eight carries for 89 yards and Stevens had six for 67 yards. Elliot was 5-of-6 passing for 70 yards.

For Willard, Parrott was 11-of-23 passing for 153 yards and a TD and ran 10 times for 23 yards. The Flashes were limited to 78 yards rushing on 21 attempts, as Rothhaar added 26 yards on seven attempts.

Plymouth is at Buckeye Central next week, while the Flashes host Seneca East.
