The Longhorns jumped out to a 40-0 lead after the first quarter and increased the margin to 47-0 at the half.
New London got on the board in the third quarter, as Josh Hess ran in a 75 yard score and Alex Gaskill added the PAT to make it 47-7.
In the fourth quarter, the Wildcats added a passing TD as Peyton Wilson found Blake Dalton for a 41 yard score. The two-point conversion attempt failed.
New London (0-1) visits Firelands next week.
Edison 41, Firelands 23
HENRIETTA TWP. — Edison opened the season with a victory over Firelands Friday.
The Chargers got on the board first as Caleb Bissell ran in a score from one yard out.
With 3:51 to play in the first quarter, the Falcons tied things up with a 65 yard run.
Edison regained the lead with 3:36 left in the first quarter with a 90 yard kickoff return to lead 14-7 after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Cas Mastropaolo scored a pair of touchdowns to give Edison a 27-7 lead at halftime.
Mastropaolo’s first score came from one yard out and his second came off a 66 yard run.
Firelands cut the deficit to 27-10 with 9:03 left in the third quarter with a 28 yard field goal.
The Falcons recovered an onside kick to pull to within 27-17 with 7:06 to play in the third quarter.
Mastropaolo added his third and final touchdown off a 21 yard run with three seconds left in third quarter, while Firelands added a TD with 7:57 left in the fourth.
Mastropaolo finished with 170 yards and the 3 TDs on 15 attempts, while Bissell ran 14 times for 62 yards and a TD. He was also 3-of-5 passing for 60 yards, with Carson Ehrhardt catching two passes for 46 yards.
Edison returns to action at home against Bucyrus Wynford next week.
Canton Central Catholic 14, Bellevue 13
CANTON — Bellevue went for a two-point conversion to go for the lead in the fourth quarter and came up just short against Canton Central Catholic Friday.
The Crusaders jumped out to an early lead, as Chase Miller scored off a six yard run with 6:16 left in the first quarter. Matt Kling added the PAT to make it 7-0.
Bellevue tied things up with 2:33 left in the quarter as Jake Holmer hauled in a 13 yard pass from Keegan Ray. Hunter Nottke’s extra point made it 7-7.
Canton C.C. took the lead for good with 7:30 left in the second quarter as Chase Miller added another TD from five yards out. Kling added the PAT for a 14-7 lead headed into halftime.
With 2:27 left in the fourth quarter, Ray found Dylan Hundley for a 31 yard TD pass, but the two-point conversion attempt failed.
Ray finished the game 13 of 26 passing for 171 yards, while Gavin Sparling had 10 catches for 124 yards.
As a team, the Redmen finished with 30 carries for 98 yards, led by Holmer with 13 carries for 45 yards. Ray added 14 rushes for 39 yards.
Canton C.C. finished with 43 rushes for 200 yards and 8 of 12 passing for 38 yards. Miller led the Crusaders on the ground, with 18 carries for 75 yards.
Bellevue returns to action at home against Clear Fork.
Plymouth 35, Cardington 20
CARDINGTON — Plymouth opened the season with a victory over the Pirates Friday.
The Big Red got on the board first with 8:24 left in the first quarter and added a two-point conversion for an early 8-0 lead.
Cardington struck back with 3:59 left in the first to pull within 8-7.
Plymouth added a touchdown late in the second quarter to lead 15-7 at halftime.
With 8:21 left in the third quarter, the Big Red added a third TD, but a failed two-point conversion made it 21-7.
Cardington added a second scored with 7:04 left in the third with an 87 yard TD run. The PAT was blocked and the Big Red led, 21-13.
With 11:25 left in the game, Plymouth scored its fourth touchdown on the second play of the fourth quarter to make it 28-13.
The Pirates pulled to within 28-20 with 4:49 to play, but the Big Red added a fifth touchdown with one minute to play to pull away for good.
Plymouth returns to action next week at Willard.
