St. Paul moves up to second in AP state poll

COLUMBUS — The St. Paul football team moved up one more spot in the latest Associated Press high school football state poll, released Monday night.

In Division VII, the Flyers (7-0, 4-0) moved up one spot to No. 2, and sit just 15 points behind poll leader Dalton (7-0).

Winners of 36 straight Firelands Conference games and 24 consecutive regular season games, St. Paul entertain South Central (3-4) at Whitney Field at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Of note from the region, Clyde (7-0) is second in Div. III and Sandusky (7-0) is fifth. The two teams meet this Friday at Strobel Field in Sandusky. The Blue Streaks needed a 28-yard field goal with seven seconds left to avoid an upset loss at Norwalk (2-5) last Friday.

In Div. IV, Shelby (7-0) held at No. 8.

Poll leaders in each division include Cincinnati St. Xavier (Div. I), Avon (Div. II), Trotwood-Madison (Div. III), Steubenville (Div. IV), Eastwood (Div. V), Marion Local (Div. VI) and Dalton (Div. VII).


St. Paul holds serve in rankings

There was no change for St. Paul in the latest Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association state poll, released Monday afternoon.

In Div. IV, the Lady Flyers (18-1) was again a close second to poll-leading New Bremen. The Cardinals have 362 points and 22 first-place votes to St. Paul’s 320 points and 15 first-place votes.

Also of note, St. Paul is the top seed in the Willard district, while No. 2 seed Buckeye Central checks in at No. 5 in the latest poll rankings.


Three teams still ranked in state poll

The sixth of eight weekly Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches poll was released last Thursday and still has three area teams ranked.

In Div. II boys, Edison is 15th, while New London is 13th in Div. III.

In the Div. III girls poll, Western Reserve is 20th.
