The board approved a $55,004.79 scholarship donation from the district endowment fund. In addition, board members approved the following donations: $7,000 from Underground Utilities; $1,000 from Darrin and Lisa Hull to the Tom Phillips Memorial Scholarship; and $655 from the Norwalk Lions Club.
Also, the board approved hiring two teachers who will split their time between the middle and high schools. Brian Depinet and Klaryssa Seigley each have one year of prior teaching experience and their one-year contracts are effective Aug. 21.
Depinet, a Seneca East High School graduate, will teach math while Seigley will teach French. NHS Principal Brad Cooley said he and NMS Principal Gary Swartz are very happy to have such competent educators as part of their staffs. Cooley also told the board that Depinet was the first applicant to be interviewed for the math position and set a high standard for the rest of the day.
In other action, the board approved:
• A one-year contract for Mollie Wetherill as the Ernsthausen Performing Arts Center coordinator effective July 1 of this year through June 30. Superintendent George Fisk complimented Wetherill on doing “a phenomenal job.”
• League Elementary Principal Adam Kreischer as the resident educator coordinator for the 2018-2019 school year. The position is part of a state license requirement for new teachers.
• An overnight Eastern Ohio football camp from July 15 through 17 in Sherrodsville.
