NEW LONDON — Tears, smiles, laughter and cheers filled the New London High School gymnasium Sunday afternoon as the 77 members of the Class of 2018 completed the last leg of their long trip to graduation.

“Graduates, we are very proud of you,” Superintendent Brad Romano said.

“You will go on and do great things and never take no for an answer,” high school Principal Erin Holzhauer said.

Class president Kathryn Marett, salutatorian Weston Eibel and valedictorian Carrie Smith offered words of wisdom to their classmates and thanked their parents, teachers and all others who helped them on their way.

“Live the life that you want to live with no fears and no regrets,” Marett said.

“Four years of hard work have come to a close,” Eibel said. “Do what you can to help others.”

“No matter where you come from and where you visit, you can do great things,” Smith said. “Stay humble and always be kind.”

The class motto was: “Behind you, all your memories. Before you, all your dreams. Around you, all who love you. Within you, all you need.” (Author unknown).

The class colors were the school colors, red and black, and the class flower was the white carnation.

National Honor Society members included Lindsey Crawford, Emily Dalton, Weston Eibel, Julianna Hicks, Elizabeth Logan, Kathryn Marett, Dane Matthews, Jacob McIntosh, Abigail Missey, Mikayla Mitterling, Kennedy Nonnenmacher, Carrie Smith, Kirsten Teague, Hannah Tunen, Melissa Weber and Shelby Wetherbee.

Class officers were Kathryn Marett, president; Carrie Smith, vice president; Braelyn Hicks, secretary; Hannah Tunen, treasurer; Julianna Hicks, Emily Dalton and Gracyn Shupp, student council.

The high school concert band and the show choir provided music for the ceremony.
