Gently worn, used, new shoes collected for Hangin at The Haven

By Norwalk Reflector Staff • Jun 27, 2018 at 2:00 AM

The Haven is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser until Aug. 10 to raise funds for its after-school program, Hangin at The Haven.

“We will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit the Haven facility and the programs held here,” fundraiser spokeswoman Tana Stewart said.

Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at First Baptist Church in Norwalk during office hours, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday. The Haven also will be open during Imagine Norwalk on Friday and will accept shoes then. Call the church with any questions at 419-668-4144.

“We are very excited about our shoe drive,” Stewart said. “We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to clean out and would be willing to donate to our cause. By doing so, we raise money for the Haven after-school program. We love that we have the opportunity to offer a safe place for kids to come have fun and be around adults who truly care for them. And we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities. It's a win-win for everyone.”

All donated shoes will be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.

“One budding entrepreneur in Haiti even earned enough to send her son to law school,” Stewart said.

Visit The Haven Facebook page for upcoming events and updates on the shoe drive. For more about Hangin at The Haven, go to https://www.fbcnorwalk.com/youth--hangin-at-the-haven.

First Baptist Church and The Haven will participate in Imagine Norwalk this Friday and July 27. The Haven will be open for roller skating. Hot dogs, hamburgers and drinks for donation will be available in the front lawn from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

“This is the perfect chance to donate your collected shoes,” Stewart said.
