NEDC pinpoints direction for 2019

As the Norwalk Economic Development Corp. pushes ahead in 2019, the focus is on local businesses and jobs.

Executive director Heather Horowitz and her staff met with investors Tuesday morning and plan another meet and greet from 4 to 5:50 p.m. Wednesday to discuss the strategic plan.

Here are the strategic priorities for 2019:

 

Workforce

Target customers:

• Future workers (K-12)

• Non-participating public

• Current businesses

• Current workers (upskill)

Short term:

• Expand/collaborate on sector partnerships

• Shared training for current needs 

• Regional workforce strategy

Medium term:

• Internships

• Pipelines (identify)

Long term:

• Career awareness

• Market/connect with alumni

• Market opportunities

 

Branding

Create communication strategy

• Key objectives

• Target audiences

• Key activities and messages

Create marketing plan

• Develop plan to increase awareness of programs and initiatives

Form marketing committee

• To ensure NEDC “brand” represents value and service

 

Sustainability

A plan that will give the organization the ability to sustain ourselves over the long-term, perpetuating our ability to fulfill our mission

This will include:

• Financial sustainability 

• Leadership succession planning

• Adaptability

• Strategic planning

 

Small business support

NEDC will cultivate entrepreneurial activity in our area by nurturing and supporting our businesses and entrepreneurs and future entrepreneurs by providing:

• Networking

• Education

• Advising

• Access to resources
