One of its ingredient suppliers notified Pepperidge Farm that the whey powder in a seasoning applied to four varieties of crackers has been the subject of a recall by the whey powder manufacturer due to the potential presence of salmonella. Those four products are: Flavor Blasted Xtra Cheddar, Flavor Blasted Sour Cream & Onion, Goldfish Baked with Whole Grain Xtra Cheddar and Goldfish Mix Xtra Cheddar + Pretzel.
A spokeswoman in the Willard human resources department directed the Reflector to the 800 customer service number Tuesday. There was no way to speak to a representative at the number, which had a pre-recorded message that recapped the Golfish update on the Pepperidge Farm website.
“That’s the number that has been dedicated to it,” the woman said when informed of the recording.
When the Reflector called Willard City Manager Jim Ludban, an office representative said the city doesn’t receive information from Pepperidge Farm about recalls. Ricky Branham, executive director of the Willard Area Chamber of Commerce, couldn’t be reached for comment.
Pepperidge Farm, according to its website, said the company “initiated an investigation and, out of an abundance of caution, is voluntarily recalling four varieties of Goldfish crackers,” that were distributed throughout the United States.
“No illnesses have been reported. No other Pepperidge Farm products in the U.S. are subject to this recall,” according to the statement on the website. “Consumers who have purchased these products should not eat them. Recalled product should be discarded or may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund.”
