At the Division II Mansfield Madison district, which features 15 teams, Norwalk (16-2) received 13 first-place votes to earn the top overall seed. Meanwhile, Willard (15-3) earned the top seed in a narrow vote over Upper Sandusky (14-4) at the Div. III Norwalk district.
The Truckers, who take a 14-game winning streak into Tuesday’s non-league game vs. powerful Oregon Cardinal Stritch (15-3), chose to play right away at the Willard sectional site.
Norwalk will face SBC Lake Division foe Tiffin Columbian (3-15), the No. 13 seed, for a third time this season at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Willard. The Truckers beat the Tornadoes on Dec. 7 in Norwalk by a 54-42 score minus star Brandon Haraway, then won 52-39 on Jan. 15 in Tiffin.
Should the Truckers win, they will face another SBC Lake opponent for a third time at 6:15 p.m. on March 1 in the sectional final. No. 7 Clyde (10-8) and No. 9 Perkins (10-9) will play for a third time at 8 p.m. on Feb. 26. The Fliers topped the Pirates twice in the regular season, 60-52 and 51-42.
In the bottom half of the Willard bracket on Feb. 27, No. 8 seed Ontario (10-7) faces No. 12 Galion (6-11), while No. 14 Edison (2-16) faces No. 2 Lexington (14-4). The two winners will then meet for the sectional title at 8 p.m. on March 1 back at Willard.
The upper bracket of the district will be played at Bucyrus High School. On Feb. 26, No. 6 Sandusky (10-6) takes on No. 10 Shelby (9-10) at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the March 1 sectional final vs. No. 3 Vermilion (17-3).
On Feb. 27, Bellevue (6-11) faces No. 5 Clear Fork (16-4) at 6:15 p.m., with No. 4 Mansfield Senior (14-4) vs. No. 15 Port Clinton (1-17) to follow at 8 p.m. the same night. Those two winners will meet in the 8 p.m. sectional final on March 1.
The district semifinals with the four sectional winners is will be at 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. on March 6 at Mansfield Madison Comprehensive.
Flashes earn top seed
In the first game of the season on Nov. 30, Upper Sandusky went to Willard and won by a dominating 83-59 score.
After a Jan. 3 home loss to Vermilion, the Crimson Flashes sat at 5-3 — but 10 straight wins later, they find themselves with 15 wins and the top seed at the Norwalk district by six points over the Rams in the seed voting.
Willard took a first-round bye at the Hopewell-Loudon site, and on March 1 at 6:15 p.m. will await the winner of No. 11 Crestview (3-16) and No. 9 Bucyrus Wynford (5-14) in the sectional final. Those two will play at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 26 at Hopewell.
The Flashes won at Wynford, 64-57, on Jan. 15. Meanwhile, the Cougars also already beat the Royals, 62-55, on Dec. 29.
In the other game at Hopewell on Feb. 26, No. 5 Oak Harbor (10-8) faces No. 12 Lakota (1-17), with the winner advancing to face No. 4 Carey (10-6) at 8 p.m. March 1.
At the Monroeville sectional site on Feb. 26, No. 7 New London (10-8) faces No. 6 Huron (8-9) at 6:15 p.m. The winner of that game will face No. 3 seed Western Reserve (13-5) at 6:15 p.m. March 1 in the sectional final.
The other half of the Monroeville site on Feb. 26 at 8 p.m. is No. 8 Fostoria (6-12) taking on No. 10 Bucyrus (3-16), with the winner advancing to face Upper in the 8 p.m. March 1 title game.
The district semifinals featuring the four sectional winners is slated for 6:15 p.m. and 8 p.m. on March 6 at Norwalk High School.
Trojans the No. 2 seed at Willard
South Central (16-3) was voted the No. 2 seed behind No. 1 Colonel Crawford (15-3) at the Div. IV Willard district site.
The Trojans took a bye at the Shelby sectional site, where at 6:15 p.m. on March 1 they will face the winner of No. 6 St. Mary Central Catholic (14-4) and No. 12 Mansfield Christian (5-16), who play at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 26.
Also on Feb. 26 at Shelby in the 8 p.m. game is No. 8 Plymouth (10-9) vs. No. 7 Mansfield St. Peter’s (12-7). That winner advances to the 8 p.m. March 1 sectional final at Shelby to face No. 3 seed Margaretta (14-4).
At the Galion sectional site, No. 10-seeded Monroeville (7-12) faces No. 9 Crestline (7-12) at 6:15 p.m. on Feb. 26. That winner faces No. 1 Crawford at 6:15 p.m. March 1 in the title game.
The other Feb. 26 game at 8 p.m. is No. 11 Buckeye Central (4-14) vs. No. 5 Lucas (13-5). That winner advances to face St. Paul (13-6), which earned the No. 4 seed and took the bye to the 8 p.m. March 1 sectional final.
