New London gets back to .500 in Firelands Conference

NEW LONDON — The New London boys basketball team improved to .500 in the Firelands Conference with Friday’s 63-53 win over visiting Mapleton at New London High School.

Mapleton led 13-12 after the first quarter, but the hosts came back in the second to lead 28-20 at halftime.

New London outscored the visitors 35-33 in the second half. Colin Cole led the Wildcats with 22 points, while Ashton Carruthers added 19.

Austin Sanders led Mapleton with 17 points.

South Central 73, Crestview 43

OLIVESBURG — The showdown is set.

South Central routed visiting Crestview in FC action on Friday, which improved the Trojans to 14-3 overall and 11-1 in the league.

The Trojans entertain Western Reserve (13-4, 12-0) in a rematch of their only FC loss of the season, a 51-43 setback back on Jan. 4 in Collins. A win forces a tie with a game left, while a loss gives the Roughriders the FC title outright.

In Friday’s game, the Trojans jumped out to a 20-6 lead after the first quarter and increased their lead to 40-16 at halftime before outscoring the visitors 33-27 in the second half.

Evan Legg led South Central with 22 points, while Simon Blair added 17 points, five rebounds and five assists. Isaiah Seidel contributed 11 points and six rebounds.

PORT CLINTON — Edison defeated the Redskins to pick up its second SBC Bay Division victory Saturday.

The Chargers (2-15, 2-7) trailed 14-11 after the first quarter, but came back in the second to lead 32-29 at halftime before outscoring the hosts 27-25 in the second half.

Cason Ehrhardt and Larry Kessler each scored 16 points to lead Edison, while Lincoln Meredith added 11.

Sammy Diaz led Port Clinton (1-15, 0-9) with 12 points.
