New London connects on 14 three-pointers in FC win

MONROEVILLE — The New London boys basketball team picked up a road victory with a decisive third quarter in Friday’s 69-63 win at Monroeville in Firelands Conference action at the Monroeville Athletic Complex.

With the win, New London improved to 8-5 (5-4) on the season.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 26-10 lead after the first quarter, but Monroeville used a 27-point second quarter to pull to within 39-37 at halftime.

As a team, New London hit 14 3-pointers, led by Ben Crawshaw with six, while Karson Howell led the team with 24 points.

Isaac Roeder led the Eagles (5-9, 2-7) with 29 points, while Mason Tonelli added 17 that included five 3-pointers. Cody Schaffer added 13 points on four-3pointers, as the two teams combined to make 23 from beyond the arc.

South Central 68, Mapleton 45

GREENWICH — South Central defeated Mapleton in FC action Friday to stay one game behind first-place Western Reserve.

David Lamoreaux led the Trojans (11-3, 8-1) with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Simon Blair added 13 points and four steals. Isaiah Seidel also had 11 points and nine rebounds for South Central, which next plays at home tonight vs. Mansfield Christian in a non-league game.

Mapleton (4-10, 2-7) held an 18-17 lead after the first quarter, but South Central outscored the visitors 18-3 in the second for a 35-21 halftime lead before outscoring the Mounties 33-26 in the second half.

Bellevue 70, Edison 51

MILAN — Visiting Bellevue exploded for a 38-point second quarter in Friday’s non-league win over the host Chargers at Edison High School.

For the Redmen (5-9), Caleb Marshall scored 17 points, while both Trey Ruhlman and Gavin Sparling each scored eight — and Garrett Vickery added eight.

Edison (1-14) was led by Larry Kessler with 13, followed by Dylan O’Dell with nine and both Patrick Ambury and Carson Ehrhardt with eight.

CLYDE — The visiting Truckers got 27 points from Elena Barber in Thursday’s SBC Lake Division loss to the host Fliers.

Barber, who shot 8-of-17 from the floor, added eight rebounds and three steals.

Lindsey Koenig added six points, four rebounds and five assists, while Paige Maurer added four points and five rebounds.

Norwalk (2-12, 1-7) entertains Ashland today in a non-league game.

FRESHMAN BASKETBALL

St. Paul freshman top Monroeville

NORWALK — The St. Paul freshman basketball team has split its last four games.

In a 34-23 win over Monroeville, Eli Fisher scored 15 points for the Flyers, with Travis Herner scoring 10 and Ethan Nolan adding six. Bradon Botkins scored 10 and Landon Brotski scored six for the Eagles.

In a 50-23 loss to Willard, Herner led the Flyers with 12 points, then scored 13 points in a 57-29 loss vs. Norwalk. In a 45-41 win over Crestview, Herner scored 17 points, followed by Kaden Maxwell with 12. Fisher and Ryan Shumway each added seven points.
