Trojans earn No. 1 seed; Edison No. 2 in districts

South Central earned a No. 1 seed in Division IV and Edison was a No. 2 seed in Div. III to highlight area teams in the high school baseball district tournament draws held on Sunday.

In the Div. IV Clyde district, the Trojans (14-4) opted for a bye and await the winner of No. 12 Maumee Valley Country Day vs. No. 8 Ottawa Hills in a sectional championship game — to be played at South Central at 5 p.m. on May 16.

In the same bracket, St. Paul (13-7) is the No. 5 seed and will entertain No. 11 Danbury at 5 p.m. May 14 at Norwalk Area Contractors Park. The winner advances to visit No. 3 Fremont St. Joseph Central Catholic at 5 p.m. on May 16 in the sectional championship game.

Also in the Clyde district, No. 10 Monroeville (1-17) travels to No. 6 Margaretta at 5 p.m. on May 14. The winner of that game visits No. 4 Seneca East on May 16.

The district semifinals are slated for May 23 and the title game on May 24 in the Clyde district.

Also in Div. IV, Plymouth (8-7) is the No. 3 seed at the Galion district. The Big Red took a bye into the sectional title game and await the winner of No. 7 Carey vs. No. 6 Lucas on May 16.

At the Div. III Shelby district, the Chargers (13-5) are the No. 2 seed and also opted for a bye in the opening round. Edison awaits the winner of No. 13 Willard (1-18) vs. No. 8 Bucyrus at 5 p.m. on May 17 in a sectional title game.

Also in the Shelby district, New London (8-6) was the No. 6 seed and hosts No. 9 Woodmore at 5 p.m. May 15. That winner advances to face No. 3 Gibsonburg in the sectional final at 5 p.m. May 17.

Western Reserve (6-9) also gets a first-round home game in the district. The Roughriders host No. 12 Bucyrus Wynford at 5 p.m. May 15, with the winner scheduled to visit top-seeded Upper Sandusky on May 17.

The Shelby district semifinals and final are scheduled for May 23 and May 25.

In Div. II, Norwalk (13-7) was voted the No. 3 seed in the Sports Force Park district. The Truckers will entertain Mansfield Senior at 5 p.m. May 15 in a sectional semifinal, then visit Perkins at May 17 in the title game should they win.

In the other half of the bracket, No. 5 Bellevue (10-7) visits No. 4 Clyde in a sectional championship at 5 p.m. May 17.

The district semifinals and final at Sports Force Park will be played on May 23 and May 24.
