ARCHBOLD — Recognized as one of the top quilting events in the Midwest, the 43rd annual Sauder Village Quilt Show once again will be a celebration of creativity and fine craftsmanship.

Quilters are encouraged to register now to enter a quilt in the show and to attend the new “Schoolhouse” event, lecture and workshops planned May 1 to 5 at Sauder Village.

New this year guests can attend the “Sauder Village Schoolhouse” — a day of quilting and entertainment to learn about the latest quilting trends, techniques, tools and technology. Guests can choose from multiple subjects taught simultaneously.

Class topics will cover the fundamentals of quilting, technique sessions focused on quilting skills and product classes. The registration fee includes lunch with the schoolhouse activities running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 3. Each session is held in its own classroom with presentations by a variety of nationally and locally known educators, artists and quilt business personalities including Pam Buda, Donna Kooistra, the Electric Quilt Co. and many others. Pre-registration is required for the all-day event.

Special guest artist Pam Buda also will offer a lecture and quilting workshops during Quilt Show week. Scheduled workshops include “Colonial Star” on May 1 and “Practice What I Preach” on May 2. Buda also will present a special lecture, “Secrets of Professional Quilters – Revealed!” on the afternoon of May 1.

Quilt lovers also will want to register for the new “Winners Showcase Preview” to be held from 5 to 8 p.m. April 30. Scheduled on Tuesday evening before the show opens to the public on Wednesday morning, this truly is a winner’s reveal and preview of the entire quilt show. This new event will include hors d’ oeuvres, a PowerPoint presentation of the top winning quilts, an awards presentation and the chance to be among the first to get a glimpse of the 2019 quilt show.

Workshop/event description, fees, supply list and registration details are available online. Class sizes are limited, so be sure to register early.

In addition to signing up for the “Sauder Village Schoolhouse” event or a quilt workshop, quilters are encouraged to register a quilt for exhibition in the 2019 show. Online registration is also available for quilt appraisals. They will be done at the show from May 2 through 4 and an advance appraisal registration is preferred. Registration for the new Schoolhouse, workshops/lecture, quilt exhibition and appraisals can be found on the Sauder Village website at https://saudervillage.org/classes-events/special-events/quilt-show-2019.

Again this year the show also will feature a vendor market, quilt exhibition, special exhibits and a grouping of creative demonstrators all set in the charming setting of historic Sauder Village. The quilt exhibit in Founder’s Hall is expected to feature nearly 400 quilts on full-length display in categories ranging from pieced, appliqué and mixed media to art and innovative, masters, baby, miniatures and youth.

The Sauder Village Quilt Show runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 1 through 4 and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 5.
